Monday February 1st = we went to three auditions!
- arrived at 8:30am - learned that this audition was for Disney's furry friends a.k.a. Goofy/Mickey/etc...
- laughed out loud and got a number anyway
- got in the first audition group
- learned some CRAZY high energy choreography
- we looked like Barney on steroids
- casting director asked if we were related
- people ooooed and ahhhed as we told them we were married
- we rocked out our audition but didn't get a callback:(
2nd Audition : Model Agency
- got a call from a random lady about casting for models
- wondered how she got our information but went anyway
- didn't know what agency she worked for
- went to a random room on Wallstreet
- waited around for 45 minutes
- got in the room and listened
- both of us very confused
- we were asked to give the lady $220 in cash to be a model
- we left and said we'll call you
- called Shirley... "What's going on?"
- Shirley said "SCAM"
- we laughed and said of course this would happen to us
- ps... she told whitney she could be a petite runway model... no such thing as petite runway!
3rd Audition : Nathan gets to audition for a new musical called "Scandalous Behavior"
it's a no pay gig - but it gives us exposure and good experience and maybe contacts
- gets to the audition 30 minutes early
- sees director
- makes small talk
- director wants whitney to audition with nathan
- they both get to sing 32 bars of whatever song they choose while an amazing pianist plays
- inside they scream for joy because it feels sooo good to sing again
- director gives a love scene to the married couple
- nathan and whitney try to speak in british accents and have no clue what they're saying
- in the scene the characters 'kiss passionately'
- so they.... 'kiss passionately'
- director likes nathan's take on the character
- director doesn't like whitney's take on her character
- director gives whitney another scene and tells her that he wants her to be like Cruella Devil...
- whitney does the best she can
- director says that whitney is too nice
- we leave in good spirits and are told that we may get called
So we had a great Feb. 1st
Then Feb. 2nd, Nathan got an interview for Borders which went well
Feb. 3rd, Sam's 23rd Birthday
Feb. 4th, got up at 4am for South Pacific auditions for Broadway
- got to the building at 5:30am
- we were the FIRST people there!
- sat down and literally looked and felt like homeless people
- more people started arriving
- made friends with a guy named Stan
- got let into the building at 8:30am (3 hours later)
- were told "sorry, we're not seeing any non-equity today"
- left feeling very tired and worn out
- came home got a call from pottery painting place for an interview on monday for both of us
- whitney leaves at noon to get her hair colored and trimmed
- 5:30pm whitney is still not home and texts nathan about awful experience with bright platinum blonde hair with orange roots
- 5:31pm shirley and nathan talk about how awful that might look
- 5:32pm nathan finishes blog
We died laughing this morning because we couldn't believe that we were doing what we were doing... waiting outside in New York City at 5:30am not in Summer, not in Spring, not even in Fall, no, but in Winter!

Im digging the hobo look on the streets of NYC! Glad things are looking up for you :)
I have to say all of this info about auditions and the way these things go is so interesting to the rest of us untalented folks. I love learning all of this and I'm so proud of your perseverance and enthusiasm. I can promise you that whenever you do land your first role there will be a small little section of Tennessee and I'm sure a section in Iowa that will be cheering so loud for you.
Hang in there. What a great adventure you are having!
