New York, New York...... it sure is a HELL of a town!

Mark it down on your calendars folks ..... December 13th and 14th 2009 - Nathan and Whitney's WORST 2 days of their LIFE!

It all started on a very cold and rainy winter day when Whitney and Nathan (after pushing snooze for 30 minutes) got out of their warm bed and packed up their car for the third trip to New York city. This trip they decided was their third and final time they would be able to find a place to live. Third time is the charm is what everyone says - they had a great feeling about this one.
While driving, they noticed that the roads seemed to be a tad bit slippery due to the sleet... good thing Nathan grew up in Iowa and has a gold medal for learning how to drive in this kind of weather:) About one hour has now past - it is 10:15am - the sleet is still coming down pretty fiercely. Suddenly the two love birds notice that there have been many car wrecks and many cars and trucks in the ditches. "Maybe slow down a bit babe," says Whitney to her cheerful husband. Unexpectedly, they not only slowed down but they stopped due to traffic and waited....and waited....
Whitney knitted
Nathan sang
Whitney joined him in the singing
They laughed - they cried
After sitting in traffic for literally one hour they finally began to drive again. What is normally a three hour drive to New York turned into a FIVE hour trip. Indeed, they thankfully made it safely to the city and even found a parking spot semi-near where their first appointment was.  Still raining... cold rain. Whitney and Nathan zip up their winter coats and put on their hoods.  After seeing five apartments in the way upper west side - Washington Heights area - they decide to go to Astoria / Queens and meet with a new realtor who has this great renovated place.  By this point Whitney's feet were completely soaking wet along with both of their jeans.  They decide it would be better to take the $10 subway train ride.  About an hour later they meet with Tina.
Okay... Tina is a greek new yorker, needless to say she was very loud and opinionated. They're pretty sure she was still ticked off for not making the cut for the movie "My Big Fat Greek Wedding."
P.S. She had a bunch of naked pictures of famous women in her office - and she was in a picture with Sylverster Stallone whom she called Sy.... which she then proceeded to tell them that she has a connection with the movie industry - Whitney and Nathan aren't interested in posing nude so they didn't take her up on any offers. They parted ways with Tina when she showed them the outside of a.n apartment directly under the subway train - "THIS IS A GREAT APARTMENT!" says Greek. "WHAT? WE CAN'T HEAR YOU!!!" says the both of them. "I UNFORTUNATELY DON'T HAVE THE KEYS FOR THIS ONE - BUT IT'S GREAT> LOOK THROUGH THIS WINDOW - YOU CAN SEE THAT IT'S VERY NICE!" screams Greek. They quickly ended all ties with crazy and ran away. They ate dinner at a nice Irish Diner where they ran into some people that they knew coincidentally.  After they filled their bellies with expensive food it was time for them to head back on the subway.  After reaching Manhattan and transferring trains and an hour going uptown they realized they had taken the wrong train.  They immediately got off.  Where were they?  In the middle of the Bronx.  Is the Bronx safe .... no.  How many white people had been on the subway?  2, Nathan and Whitney.  They finally got back on the subway to go downtown for another hour to transfer onto the correct train to get back to Washington Heights where their car was and where their friend Jessica Blair was.  After getting off of the subway and walking around for about 20 minutes they finally found their car and drove 10 blocks to Jessica to stay the night.  After driving around for about 20 minutes looking for a parking space they finally decided to park right next to a fire hydrant.  Giving plenty of space for the firemen.
The next day the sun was shining and their was no rain.  This was going to be the perfect day, they had their appointments all set up, and they weren't going to be wet.  They gathered all of their stuff including their air mattress and began the walk towards their car.  Everything was going perfectly, or so it seemed.  Did Nathan and Whitney park too close to the fire hydrant?  Did they park illegally?  These questions exist because their car was TOWED.  No car.  Gone.  Bye - bye!  They start flagging down a policeman because there were no signs with phone numbers for the towing company.  The policeman stated that each car needs to remain 14 feet away on each side of each fire hydrant - which there are about 10 on each block.  So... basically no one can park anywhere in New York.  They call the towing company and get informed on all of this nonsense.  They get a cab and drive over to the building.  They showed proof of their vehicle, got back in the cab and drove all the way down town which took 45 minutes,  they waited in line to pay for the ticket - 30 minutes later they payed $185!  They got back in the cab to drive another 45 minutes back uptown.  Payed the cab driver $60 and finally got their car back.  Whitney and Nathan have now wasted 2.5 hours and over $200 and had to cancel some appointments.

They drove to Astoria/Queens because that is where they really want to live.  They meet with Angelica who is a feisty hispanic, she shows them an apartment on the top floor of a 5 story building - she is literally running up the stairs.  Whitney is feeling queezy due to the Antibiotic she is on for her Lymes disease (more on that later) so they are slowly walking up each step.  Angelica is.... they don't know where she is.  The apartment was awful.  Whitney thinks she is going to vomit, Nathan puts her in the back seat of their car and demands they go home.  He puts his foot down in the decision and on the gas pedal.  They drive through crazy Manhattan to get home - their GPS "Mayhem" is taking them who knows where???  There are people everywhere!!!!!!  Nathan pulls over and has a panic attack.  Whitney is feeling better and takes over - she puts her foot down and decided to go back because their first realtor Kim leaves a message saying that she has the perfect place.  They haven't eaten anything for the day.  They see the 'perfect place' that Kim promised and end up falling in love with it.  They decide to sign a year lease - they meet the landlord and get the keys. They drive home - get lost - pay all the tolls and kiss the floor of their apartment in Lancaster.

The End.
