Hey!
Tonight is my final dress rehearsal for Hairspray- and tomorrow is opening night! I wanted to give you a quick update on how my time has been here in New Hampshire before opening weekend started.
I have been having a blast! Hairspray has always been a show that I have wanted to be a part of - and I am finally doing it! The show has so much energy and is such an ensemble show that everyone works as a team to put it up! I am also playing one of the roles that is on my list of roles that I want to play in my life before I die. (kind of like a performance 'Bucket List' - ha!)
I have been practicing the show for 6 days a week - 8 hours a day for the past 2 weeks, and have loved every second of it. Unfortunately a bad cold started going through the cast last week and I have had it all through Tech rehearsal, which has been a huge bummer. On Easter - I had to be on vocal rest, where I didn't talk all day. A few of the cast mates went to a local church and we had a cast easter egg hunt and relay races and such. It's always wonderful meeting new friends and creating a new family with each new theatre gig. The theatre community is so welcoming and I'm so happy to be a part of it. All races, ages, and ethnicities are always accepted and fused together to create a close knit family with each new gig.
Yesterday (Wednesday) at 2:00 we had our very first dress rehearsal with wigs, shoes, costumes, microphones, set, etc. Needless to say it was quite chaotic. Wigs were falling off, props forgotten, etc. Then at 7:00pm that night we had another dress rehearsal with an audience of 400! AH! This was still one of our dress rehearsals and the audience knew that...I think it was some sort of politicians and/or sponsors that were there...not quite sure, because I was so busy trying to get ready for a rehearsal that was also kind of a show! Regardless, the show was a blast. We got many laughs and the audience ate it all up!
I'm still dealing with a cold - but the Lord somehow always gets me through it. Here is the commercial with a few photos of the cast:
