"A Chorus Line"

Today, we went to another audition but this time for the musical "A Chorus Line," which is going up in Chicago IL at the Marriott Theater. It would be an equity contract for August - September. However, this audition was an open dance call. We got there at 9:30am and we were numbers 115 and 116. We actually knew 2 people there from old summer jobs that were still in school but they were on winter break. Right when we got there we waited around for a good hour and a half and then were informed that they were going to do a cut system by making everyone do a double pirouette. They started taking groups of 15 into the room and called each individual to walk front and center and do the turn. It had to be a classical double pirouette and you could land however you wanted. We were kind of freaking out because we haven't practiced turns since Belmont and haven't done them since this summer. They aren't the easiest things in the world. Especially when there is no choreography leading up to the turn - you just have to do it out of nowhere. We immediately walked around the floor of Ripley Grier Studios and actually found an open studio where a few dancers were warming up. We went in there and started practicing our turns.
It soon came time for our group to go. Whitney and I were right next to each other and it was pretty reassuring because we both felt very awkward and very nervous. Many people were nailing the turn. Whitney and I both failed and didn't get to stay. Right after we went they called the numbers they wanted to stay where they would teach them a ballet combination. After the ballet combination they would make another cut and then have people sing. "A Chorus Line," is a heavy dance musical, so they primarily wanted great dancers who can sing as opposed to great singers who can dance.
BUT>>>>>>>>>>> We got to do something today - we got to try to do a double pirouette!!! So, we're only moving on up from here - the next time we'll get to sing, and then the next time, we'll get to sing and dance, and then the next time... we'll get hired:)

It was snowing a lot this morning!

Here is a lovely picture of a girl stretching literally right in front of us so we had to take a picture with our cell phone secretively .... HA
